Nobel Peace Prize 2026 has been awarded to former South African jurist and United Nations human rights chief Navanethem \u201cNavi\u201d Pillay for her efforts to promote peace and international law. The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the award on 9 October 2026 in Oslo.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Who Is Navi Pillay?<\/b><\/h2>\r\n

Navanethem \u201cNavi\u201d Pillay is a South African jurist known for her contributions to international criminal justice, human rights and the rule of law. She became the first woman to practise law in Natal Province and the first Black woman to serve on South Africa's High Court. She also defended opponents of apartheid and worked to strengthen legal protections for vulnerable communities.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
