Tirah’s surrounding mountain routes contributed to its regional strategic importance, although the valley itself should not be confused with the main Khyber Pass route.

Security and Humanitarian Concerns: Tirah has experienced security operations and displacement linked to militancy. In 2026, thousands of families were reported to have been displaced amid preparations for security operations. A planned return beginning on 10 October was subsequently reported to have been postponed, with affected residents raising concerns about rehabilitation, compensation and basic services. The situation illustrates the effects of insecurity on livelihoods, education, healthcare and local infrastructure.

Tirah Valley is a mountainous region in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near Afghanistan, known for its rugged terrain, Pashtun tribes, historic passes and strategic importance.

[1787
1831,1832
0":"post-26960","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-current-affairs","8":"tag-tirah-valley","9":"tag-valley
["GET
