The Supreme Court formed a Committee on Prison Reforms to examine the various problems plaguing prisons in the country.

Mandate of committee: To examine the various problems plaguing prisons in the country, from overcrowding to lack of legal advice to convicts to issues of remission and parole.
Composition: The committee is chaired by former Supreme court judge, Justice Amitava Roy. Inspector General of Police, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), and the Director General (Prisons) Tihar Jail are the other members.
