The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved the procurement of indigenous BrahMos Missile for two Indian Navy ships to be built in Russia. BrahMos has already been inducted on all frontline warships of the Indian Navy.

BrahMos is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that is capable of being launched from land, sea, sub-sea and air against surface and sea-based targets.
Developed by: It is a joint venture between the Russia’s NPO Mashinostroeyenia (NPOM) and India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The two organizations have together formed BrahMos Aerospace.
Speed: The missile travels at speeds of Mach 2.8 to 3.0, which is being upgraded to Mach 5.0.
Range:
Its range was initially capped at 290 km as per obligations of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR).
Since India’s entry into the club, the range has been extended to 450 km and the plan is to increase it to 600 km.
Etymology: The name BrahMos is formed from the names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra of India and the Moskva of Russia.
Present status: The Navy and the Army have already inducted the missile, while the air-launched variant is undergoing trials.
