Kerala Chief Minister inaugurated a conference of Fisheries Ministers from South Indian States at Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) for discussing an integrated approach for the management of fisheries resources.

CMFRI has developed a unique method for estimation of fishery catch called the "Stratified Multistage Random Sampling Method”. With this methodology the Institute is maintaining the National Marine Fisheries Data Centre (NMFDC).
