COMMITTEE FOR PRISON REFORMS

Supreme Court, while calling overcrowding of Jails as an human rights issue, has announced a committee/Panel to suggest measures to improve Prison conditions.

About:

  • Composition: The committee will be chaired by a retired Supreme Court judge. It will also have 2-3 officials from the Government of India.

  • Mandate: To suggest measures for –
    • releasing Undertrial prisoners and ending overcrowding of jails.



Improving the lives of Prison inmates.
