DEFENCE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CADRE (DRDS)

DRDO has invited applications from serving officers of the three services already working with it for permanent absorption as civilian officials into its Defence Research and Development Cadre (DRDS).

About:

  • Background: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has organised its human resources in to three cadres, viz., (1) Defence Research and Development Services (DRDS), (2) Defence Research Technical Cadre (DRTC), and (3) Admin and Allied Cadre.

  • Status: DRDS is a Central Group 'A' Civil Service of the Government of India. DRDS scientists are Gazetted (Group A) defence-civilian officers under the Ministry of Defence.

  • Responsibility: They are responsible for developing new technologies and military hardware for the Indian defence and security forces.

  • Recruitment: DRDS scientists are recruited into DRDO by one of the following means:
    • Direct Recruitment at entry level through Scientists Entry Test (SET) conducted by Recruitment and Assessment Centre (RAC).

    • Transfer of officers from other Group A technical civil services like Indian Ordnance Factories Service.

    • Deputation or on Contract from other research organisations.

    • Absorption in civilian capacity of technical officers from the Indian Armed Forces.
