On the occasion of 75th Anniversary of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on 16th October 2020, Prime Minister Modi will release a commemorative coin of Rs 75 denomination to mark the long-standing relation of India with FAO.

About:

  • The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security.

  • Its Latin motto, fiat panis, translates to "let there be bread".

  • It was founded in 1945.

  • The FAO is headquartered in Rome, Italy.

  • Composed of 197 member states, the FAO is governed by a biennial conference representing each member country and the European Union, which elects a 49-member executive council.

  • FAO and the World Health Organization created the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 1961 to develop food standards, guidelines and texts such as codes of practice under the Joint FAO/ WHO Food Standards Programme.
