GRADED RESPONSE ACTION PLAN (GRAP)

Warning of a dip in air quality from November 1 to 10, an expert panel, constituted under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for Delhi, has recommended a ban on construction activities and shutting down of coal and biomass industries.

Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP):

  • In pursuant to the Supreme Court’s order of December, 2016 Union government notified a GRAP for Improving air quality in National Capital Region of Delhi in January 2017.

  • Categories: It has been prepared for implementation under different Air Quality Index (AQI) categories namely, Moderate & Poor, Very Poor, Severe, Severe+ and Emergency as per National Air Quality Index.

  • Under the GRAP, stringent actions are implemented based on the air quality of the city. E.g. If the air quality lies in moderate to poor category- measures, like stopping garbage burning in landfills and other places, and enforcing all pollution control regulations in brick kilns and industries, would be implemented.
