About:
Total gross earnings across all languages rose almost 12% last year to ₹10,948 crore, from ₹9,810 crore in 2018, according to the report. The reduction in GST slabs also helped boost net earnings at an even faster pace of 19% to ₹9,490 crore.
Ironically, the biggest gainer was Hollywood, with its productions registering a 31% jump in gross collections to touch an all-time high of ₹1,595 crore. This also helped it overtake Tamil and Telugu to the number two spot in terms of earnings after Hindi.
Till last year, Hindi had led the race followed by Tamil and Telugu, with Hollywood placed fourth.
Hollywood also increased its box office share. While Hindi led with 44% of the gross domestic box office, Hollywood stood second with 15% share, followed by Tamil and Telugu at 13% each.
