International Day Of The Victims Of Enforced Disappearances is being observed on 30 August.

About:

  • In 2010, by its resolution 65/209 the UN General Assembly welcomed the adoption of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, and decided to declare 30 August the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, to be observed beginning in 2011.

  • Both the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which came into force on 1 July 2002, and the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 December 2006, state that, a "forced disappearance" qualifies as a crime against humanity.
