Israel will honour late J.F.R Jacob, as a Jewish soldier who served in a foreign army. He will be honoured by unveiling of a wall plaque on the Wall of Honour at Jerusalem for soldiers who served with distinction in foreign armies.

Jacob Farj Rafael Jacob (1923 – 2016) was an Indian Army Lieutenant General.
Ethnicity: Jacob was born in Calcutta in 1923 to Jewish parents from Iraq. His family had originally come from Iraq and settled in Bengal in the mid-18th century.
Early Life: He joined Indian Army and served in World War II and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.
1971 war: He was one of the heroes in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and the Liberation of Bangladesh. Jacob, then a Major General, served as the Chief of Staff of the Indian Army's Eastern Command during the war.
Post-retirement: He retired from army in 1978 and later on served as the Governor of Goa and Punjab.
