Union Minister for Environment held a review meeting of pollution Abatement of Mula - Mutha River in Pune.
About:
Location: The Mula-Mutha river is formed by the Mula and Mutha rivers coming together, courses through the Pune city.
Pollution status: Sections of the river are among the 351 most critically polluted stretches identified by the Central Pollution Control Board, thus being one of India’s most polluted rivers.
Mula-Mutha river cleaning project:
The project for the Pollution Abatement of Rivers Mula-Mutha is a joint project of Union Government and Pune Municipal Corporation.
Government of India has signed a loan agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) in the year 2015. The total cost of the project is Rs. 990 crore.
The first sewerage treatment plant under this project is near completion and the project is scheduled to be completed by January 2022.
