MULA-MUTHA RIVER

About:

• Location: The Mula-Mutha river is formed by the Mula and Mutha rivers coming together, courses through the Pune city.
  
  
• Pollution status: Sections of the river are among the 351 most critically polluted stretches identified by the Central Pollution Control Board, thus being one of India’s most polluted rivers.
  
  
• Mula-Mutha river cleaning project:
  • The project for the Pollution Abatement of Rivers Mula-Mutha is a joint project of Union Government and Pune Municipal Corporation.
    
    
  • Government of India has signed a loan agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) in the year 2015. The total cost of the project is Rs. 990 crore. 
    
    
  • The first sewerage treatment plant under this project is near completion and the project is scheduled to be completed by January 2022.
