NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR WOMEN (NCW)

National Commission for Women (NCW) member Rekha Sharma has been appointed as the Chairperson of the NCW.
About:
Status:
NCW was set up as statutory body in 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990.
Mandate:
review the Constitutional and Legal safeguards for women;
recommend remedial legislative measures;
facilitate redressal of grievances and
advise the Government on all policy matters affecting women.
Composition:
It comprises a Chairperson, five Members and a Member-Secretary to be
nominated by the Central Government.
The only criteria for appointing chairperson is
commitment to the cause of women.
