Veteran actor and former BJP MP Paresh Rawal has been appointed as chairperson of the National School of Drama (NSD), India's premier theatre institute.

Rawal has been appointed for a four-year term. The post had been vacant since playwright Ratan Thiyam’s tenure ended in 2017.
Rawal, who served one term as the Ahmedabad East MP from 2014 to 2019, is a recipient of the Padma Shri.
