Kazakhstan's parliament voted to rename the country's capital Astana as Nursultan in honour of longtime ruler Nursultan Nazarbayev, a day after he resigned as president.

Nursultan, formerly Astana , is the capital city of Kazakhstan. It the second-largest city in Kazakhstan, behind Almaty.
Location: It is located on the banks of the Ishim River.
History: Nursultan (then Astana) became the capital city of Kazakhstan in 1997.
Renaming: After a parliamentary vote Astana is now officially renamed Nursultan. Kazakhstan's new interim president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed renaming the capital.
