PHARMACOVIGILANCE PROGRAMME OF INDIA (PvPI)

April 13, 2019

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has asked manufacturers to inform general public on adverse reactions from some commonly-used antibiotics.

About:

  • This happened after the Union Health Ministry’s pharmaceutical watchdog, the National Co-ordination Centre of the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), raised an alert on adverse reactions that were being reported from 7 commonly-used antibiotics.

  • The 7 Antibiotics are: Cefotaxime, Ofloxacin, Cefixime, Tranexamic Acid, Quetiapine, Sulfasalazine and Sodium Valproate.

  • CDSCO has written to drug manufacturers, to mention in leaflets inserted into drug packets or on promotional literature, information about the adverse reactions of these medicines.
