PM Modi, in his Independence Day speech, announced that Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan (PMJAA) – a health insurance scheme – will be launched on 25th September, 2018.
About:
PMJAA is also known as Ayushman Bharat or the National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM).
It is a government-sponsored health insurance scheme under which free treatment will be provided for up to ₹5 lakh a family a year in any government or empanelled private hospitals all over India.
The scheme will be available for 10.74 crore beneficiary families i.e. about 50 crore Indian citizens.
Eligibility:
Only financially weak and underprivileged members of the society are eligible.
Only individuals registered under the Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011 and having a valid Aadhar Card are eligible.
Timeline: On September 25, 2018, the scheme will be launched on a pilot basis in 80-100 districts. From October 2018 onwards, the scheme will be expanded.
