Feb. 26, 2022

Since 1990, Ukraine has had one revolution every decade. As Russian forces continue their long march into the former Soviet state, here is a look at some of these revolutions and their outcome.

About:

  • Granite Revolution: Ukraine’s first and perhaps least known popular uprising was the granite revolution which took place in October 1990. At the time, Ukraine was still a part of the Soviet Union.

  • Orange Revolution: The Orange Revolution was a series of protests and political events that took place in Ukraine between November 2004 and January 2005.

  • Maidan revolution: It took place in Ukraine in February 2014 at the end of the Euromaidan protests, when a series of violent events involving protesters, riot police, and unknown shooters in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv culminated in the ousting of elected president Viktor Yanukovych and the overthrow of the Ukrainian government.
