Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina was sworn in as Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the third consecutive term.
About:
President Mohammad Abdul Hamid administered the oath of office to 71-year-old Sheikh Hasina at the Bangabhaban in Dhaka.
Awami League and its allies secured 288 seats out of elections held for 299-member Parliament recently.
It is her fourth term in office.
She was first elected prime minister in 1996 but lost the 2001 contest.
She returned to power after winning the December 2008 polls by landslide and has been in power ever since.
Hasina has presided over record economic growth in the South Asian country of 165 million people but critics have accused her of creeping authoritarianism.
To her supporters, she is known as Bangladesh's “mother of humanity” for allowing in hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees fleeing a military crackdown in neighbouring Myanmar in 2017.
