Prominent Pakistani cleric Maulana Samiul Haq, who was also known as the godfather of Taliban in Pakistan, was assassinated in Rawalpindi.

Maulana Sami ul Haq was a Pakistani religious scholar and senator.
He was widely known as the GodFather of Taliban in Pakistan as he was the chancellor of Darul Uloom Haqqania, a Deobandi Islamic seminary which is the alma mater of many prominent Taliban members. He had close ties to Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar.
He was also the member of the Senate of Pakistan in 1980s and 1990s.
He was killed by unidentified attackers in a house where he was staying.
