A Loan Agreement was signed between India and Japan on Japanese Official Development Assistance loan worth Rs. 1817 crore for the construction of Turga Pumped Storage Project.
About:
Location: The Turga Pumped Storage Project is located in Purulia district of West Bengal.
Objective: The Project envisages utilization of the waters of the River Turga (a tributary of Subarnarekha river) in Ayodhya hills (an extension of Chhota Nagpur Plateau) for peak power generation on a Pumped storage type development.
Working:
The Project is a Close Loop type Pumped Storage Scheme which envisages the construction of two reservoirs at two different levels.
It involves construction of Upper Dam across Turga Nala, a water conductor system with an underground Power House on the downstream of Upper Dam and a Lower Dam.
