Union Cabinet has approved renaming Jharsuguda airport in Odisha as 'Veer Surendra Sai Airport'.
About:
The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2018.
It has been developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in collaboration with Odisha government at an estimated cost of Rs 210 crore, with Rs 75 crore contribution from the state.
The new airport has been named after Veer Surendra Sai (1809 – 1884) – an Indian freedom fighter and tribal leader from Odisha who fought against the British East India Company.
Jharsuguda is the second airport of Odisha after Bhubaneswar to become operational and the first one to provide necessary connectivity to Bhubaneswar, Raipur and Ranchi under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) UDAN.
