WORLDWIDE COST OF LIVING 2019

For the first time in its 30 year History, three cities share the title of the world's most expensive city – Singapore, Hong Kong and Paris – in the Worldwide Cost of Living Survey from The Economist Intelligence Unit.

  • Released by: The Economist Intelligence Unit. 

  • Methodology: The annual index compares prices across 160 products and services in 133 cities around the world, including recreation, education and utility bills. 

  • The five most expensive cities in the world: Singapore marks its sixth straight year at the top of the rankings, and is joined there by Hong Kong and Paris. The survey finds that living costs in all three cities are 7% higher than in New York, the benchmark city. 

  • The five cheapest cities in the world: Cheapest city to live in the world is Caracas (Venezuela) followed by Damascus (Syria), Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Bangalore (India). 

  • Apart from Bangalore, Chennai and New Delhi are other two Indian cities to feature among the 10 cheapest locations.
