Answer: The Maurya Empire (322-185 BCE) was a powerful empire in ancient India, and its art is known for its unique style  and characteristics. Maurya contributed immensely to the development of Art which was noted for its simplicity,  precision and spirited realism. 

Mauryan arts with simplicity, precision and spirited realism: 

  • The Ashoka Pillars: One of the most famous examples of Mauryan art is the Ashoka Pillar. These pillars  were carved from single pieces of stone, and their designs were simple yet elegant. They featured animals,  plants, and geometric patterns, all executed with incredible precision and accuracy.  
  • The Bharhut Stupa: It is known for its exquisite reliefs that depict scenes from the life of the  Buddha. The reliefs are executed with extraordinary precision. They portray a sense of movement and  emotion showing spirited realism. 
  • The Sarnath Lion Capital: This capital features four lions standing back-to-back. The lions are surrounded  by a frieze of stylized wheels and lotus flowers. The capital is made of sandstone, with every detail  executed with remarkable precision.
