Negative Marking in UPSC Prelims 2027

UPSC follows a negative marking system in the Preliminary Examination to ensure fair evaluation and discourage random guessing.

  • One-third (1/3rd) of the marks assigned to a question are deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • Negative marking applies to both General Studies Paper I and CSAT Paper II.
  • No marks are deducted for questions left unanswered.
  • If more than one option is marked for a question, it is treated as an incorrect answer.
  • Candidates receive full marks for every correct answer.
  • Candidates should focus on accuracy rather than attempting all questions blindly.
